Rules for when the going gets tough

I’m pretty raw over the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg last Friday and so I am reminding myself of my mantras- maybe they will help you to grieve and move forward.  For there is much work yet to do.

·      Breathe Deeply, then feel it deeply, then try and move on to the next important thing when you are ready; but sometimes you have to move on earlier than you would need or like.

·      Do what you can and don’t worry about what you can’t- and do the best you can with what you have.

·      Others must do their part; don’t rescue or try to fix them when it comes to adults; children need direction and the allowance to choose and fail when it’s not dangerous for them.

·      Boundaries are there as much for other people as they are for you, but you set them for you.  Keep them most of the time; but make exceptions once in a while to feel whether the boundary is set at the right level.

·      Spend time with people who you love and enjoy. Relationships keep you healthy – body, mind and soul.

·      I love the quote from the movie Field of Dreams, “If you build it, they will come.” It sums up the law of attraction and my personal faith very well: do what you need to, not more and certainly not less, and what is needed will happen, it really will.

·      The Golden Rule is a way of life and your neighbor is going to be very different from you.  That is the point - learn to love the differences.  “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” are one in the same rule.  Go and do it.  It’s simple and very difficult.

·      When all else fails, I go to my Brené Brown quotes (mostly on Pintrest, but some are saved in my photos) and re-read and then I pray.

·      Use my photos album marked “savor” and enjoy the beautiful and blessed past.

What are your go-to mantras and activities when the world closes in?

Grieve - and work.
