What have you been reading lately?

A friend asked me for recommendations on Mentoring books las Saturday. I went to my library and pulled out two books I have read… but now I want to focus on recent books I have read for recommendations.

Reading books brings me joy, especially during holidays where I sit and read and read and...

I have read or finished quite a few books this past holiday time in Tenerife and Minnesota(and I am still reading, but at a slower pace), and I want to share some highlights in case you need or wish for something new to read.

The Wind Knows My Name

This book is amazing, especially for those who enjoy Isabell Allende. It is her newest book. I gave it to a friend to read via another friend and I hope they have both read it and have met each other  HIGHLY recommended.

The Dictionary of Lost Words

For myself and my husband and linguists and English teachers, this book of how the first Oxford English Dictionary came to be is great – very fun to read, quite interesting in the historical novel way, but also challenging the ideas of “who chooses” words to be put in a dictionary in the first place. HIGHLY recommended.

Victory City

Salman Rushdie’s fantasmical historical novel is a very fun read. For those who like to mix historical novels with fantasy, this will be for you.

Postscript (Sequel to PS I love you)

Anyone who read the first novel will want to read this one, too. I have NOT read the first novel and still found this an engaging romantic novel. Fior summer ir holiday reading (for me).

Animal Joy

A book for those who engage in psychology and social sciences, but not an easy read, and not for “everyperson”.

Plant Dreaming Deep

For writers and those interested in solitude and plants.

Rich Mullins: An Arrow Pointing to Heaven

An amazing biography of a hero of mine written by another person I find a very engaging author (and theologian).

What I have finished since holidays:

The Fraud

Zadie Smith does an excellent job of writing a historical novel during Victorian times in England focusing on racism and sexism. Hats off! A very good read!

Working on:

Community: The Structure of Belonging (Block)

Revelation for the Rest of us (McKnight)

The Mindful Body (Ellen Langer)

Pivot (McKnight, Barringer, Rosensteel)

Pendragon and Grail (Lawhead)

What have you been reading, lately? What’s on your night stand for the next bit?

Enjoy the fall,
