Success - how to:

Let’s consider success:

What do you want, really?

Will it be the same in five years? In ten? Fifteen? Twenty years?

How do those answers to the first question help you to make your decision about your next steps?

What will you value when you are 45? 50? 55? 60? …?

But back to the question: what do you really want?

Do you need or want to start something new?

There are some steps involved in the process, even before something new becomes “a THING”.

To be successful, here are some points to think about.

·      Make mistakes and learn

·      Do something new and learn

·      Own what you do

·      It’s all about your development as a human being

·      Keep on being your responsible authentic self

·      Remember it’s all about community and adding value to the “world”

To flesh it out:

Make mistakes and learn from them.

Last week the blog was just that (https://www.jehle-coaching.com/blog/2022/10/26/try-again-and-learn-when-you-make-a-mistake )- it is when we make a mistake and learn from it that we actually learn best.

Learning, in general, is what is good for us and what we need to move forward.

Whether it is a new hobby, a new work skill, or something else, learning is what keeps us fresh and growing. It is part of what makes us alive and ready to face new challenges. If you want to do something new, keep on learning.

We need to take responsibility for our words and actions and to follow through.

We should always follow through (of course, that is where mistakes are often made).  Try to keep your promises about your product and services, about your time (limits) and everything else.

When we make mistakes and learn, own our promises, then we are developing as a human being.

Development is more than just learning, it is becoming more of who we are in our personalities and characters. It is becoming who we were made to be. This is a wonderful goal to aspire to.

Be boldly you.

When you grow into who you were made to be, you are able to become who you are and be more authentic. No filters, no apologies. Do not hide behind other peoples’ expectations and assumptions of who you are.

Finally, “do unto others and do good”.

I am fondly reminding my readers that we are not alone, and we do not live on an island.  We are a community and lately it has become very clear that this community is world-wide. What I do affects the worker who made my clothes- perhaps that woman is in Turkey, or Bangladesh, or in Bulgaria… What I eat may affect whether the need for pesticides and herbicides are used here in Switzerland or elsewhere. What I teach may affect what my students do after they graduate. And so on.  Am I contributing to the good of the society at large? If yes, how?

There are many other things to consider when looking at personal success. Remember it is not really about numbers. It’s about who you are and how you relate to those around you.

Have a very successful week!
